Johnathan Thurston : NRL Rugby League

After having scans on his injured right shoulder, the North Queensland Cowboys have confirmed that Johnathan Thurston's season - and Origin career - is over.

The results of the scans has led Cowboys coach Paul Green to declare the champion half's season finished, with Thurston requiring surgery ahead of what would have been his 300th NRL game and final State of Origin appearance.

Having represented Queensland on 36 occasions and Australia 38 times, it likely puts an end to an illustrious Origin and International career after Thurston called time on his representative career in January.

The news follows an injury update to Queensland centre Darius Boyd, who suffered a thumb complaint in Origin II and similarly appears likely to miss the series decider at Suncorp Stadium.

The NSW VB Blues head to Brisbane for Origin III with the series on the line - and they need your support! Click here to purchase tickets and to show you bleed blue.
