The triumphant NSW women's team in 2017.

The decision to host this year's women's State of Origin match at the iconic North Sydney Oval has been given the tick of approval from players on both sides of the great NSW-Queensland divide.

In another boost for the rapidly expanding women's rugby league, this year's interstate contest will be played at the former home ground of the Bears on the Friday night of June 22, in the lead-up to game two of the men's Holden State of Origin series two days later at ANZ Stadium.

It is also the first time the match will take place under the State of Origin branding.

NSW forward Simaima Taufa was excited to have the chance to run out onto the famous ground as the Blues chase their third consecutive triumph.

"It would be awesome to see a big crowd at North Sydney Oval as we look to make it three wins in a row. NSW has won the past two years and we’re not about to give up the title now," she said.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the women's game was a growth area for the sport.

"There’s nothing quite like State of Origin rivalry and what an occasion this will be, as our Queensland and NSW women’s teams battle it out on the iconic North Sydney Oval, to kick off our representative weekend," Greenberg said.

Holden Women's State of Origin

"Anyone who has witnessed past matches between these two states knows the incredible skills and sheer determination to win that both teams display."

Queensland winger Karina Brown said the build-up to this year’s Origin would be significant, an event she's had marked on the calendar for months.

"This is a game and an experience that I look forward to every year. This is another huge moment for women’s rugby league and both teams will be ready to showcase our great game on the big stage," Brown said.

Tickets are on sale, beginning with $10 for adults when you purchase prior to game day, while those 15 years and under are free.

Tickets include entry to the Queensland v NSW residents match, which will be played prior to the Women’s State of Origin.
