Saifiti to make NSW Blues debut in Origin decider

Newcastle Knights prop Jacob Saifiti today has been called in to make his debut for the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues after Jordan McLean was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Saifiti has been part of the extended NSW squad for Games One and Three but returned home on Wednesday to prepare for the Knights’ NRL match against South Sydney Rabbitohs at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday night.

He is expected to arrive in camp during the team’s day off tomorrow and will have his first training session with the squad on Saturday 9 July at a venue yet to be determined.

Saifiti was named Newcastle’s Player of the Year in 2021 and follows in the footsteps of his twin brother, Daniel, who has played seven times for the Blues between 2019-2021.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in camp this year and was honoured to receive the call-up, but I do feel disappointed for Jordan,” Saifiti said.

“My brother Daniel has told me previously the time goes really quickly so enjoy the experience, be in the moment and make the most of it which I intend to do.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to turn in a performance in the sky blue jumper that everyone can be proud of.”
