SUMMARY: The New Zealand Warriors proved too powerful for the visiting Newtown Jets piling on 44 points. The Warriors dominated from start to finish with Api Pewhairangi steering the locals in attack. NZ consolidates their position in the top eight with their fifth victory while Newtown hold a 4-4 record.
Illawarra Cutters 22 (K Glymin 2, S Moceidreke, S Crook tries: Crook 3 goals) bt Wyong Roos 14 (B Molan, A Papalii tries; Nathan Stapleton 3 goals)
SUMMARY: The Illawarra Cutters reversed their loss against Wyong two weeks ago, scoring a gripping 22-14 win at a spongy Morry Breen Oval. The game hung in the balance until the final minute when man-of-the-match Shannon Crook shrugged off a defender and darted over besides the upright.
Penrith Panthers 16 (R Jennings, T Eisenhuth, B Attwood tries; S Katoa 2 goals) bt Mounties 10 (M Barnett, B Tupou tries; M Cornish goal)
SUMMARY: It was wild and wet but in the end it was Penrith who prevailed winning a tense affair, 16-10. Scores were tied 10-10 at halftime. A ball-jolting hit on Bill Tupou by Ben Murdoch-Masila midway through the second half was picked up by Tom Eisenhuth to score in the corner breaking the deadline, before a late Sione Katoa penalty goal sealed Penrith’s win.
Manly Sea Eagles 38 (B Leary 2, D Reardon, T Satini, D Kelly, M Chee Kam tries; K Aldridge 7 goals) bt North Sydney Bears 22 (S Manuleleua 2, J Olive, D Nicholls tries; Nicholls 3 goals)
SUMMARY: The Manly Sea Eagles made it two wins in a row with an impressive win over their arch rivals, the North Sydney Bears. Only leading 12-10 at half time, the Sea Eagles ran in four second-half tries thanks to strong performances by Dylan Kelly, Blake Leary and Tony Satini.
Wests Tigers 29 (K Rowe 2, K Lulia, N Milone, J Drinkwater tries; Drinkwater 4 goals; Drinkwater field goal) bt Wentworthville Magpies 28 (R Morgan, V Toutai, F Goodall, S Gorman T Moeroa tries; L Kelly 4 goals)
SUMMARY: Wests Tigers have beat the Wentworthville Magpies 29-28 in an entertaining VB NSW Cup match at Ringrose Park. The Magpies led 22-16 at halftime and 28-16 early in the second half but the Tigers clawed their way back and a 77th-minute field goal by halfback Josh Drinkwater got his side home.
Newcastle Knights 20 (P Mata'utia 2, C Mata'utia, H Tuha tries; D Kerr 2 goals) bt Canterbury Bulldogs 12 (J Loko, V Rennie tries; L Dodd, D Chisholm goals)
SUMMARY: Newcastle defeated Canterbury-Bankstown 20-12 at Morry Breen Oval, Wyong.
There was a lot of hostility between the two sides in the opening ten minutes but when they got back to playing footy, Newcastle proved too strong in the boggy conditions.
