Mitchell Pearce Decides His Future

State of Origin series winning halfback Mitchell Pearce has signed a one-year contract extension with the Newcastle Knights to the end of 2022.

There had been speculation the former Sydney Roosters 2013 Premiership winner could head elsewhere after the Knights announced contract upgrades for young stars Kalyn Ponga, Daniel Saifiti and Bradman Best but Pearce said he was happy to stay put. “There’s been a lot of talk but I’ve never wanted to go elsewhere,” said Pearce.

“I see myself as a Knight now and I really want to get the job done with the club and the boys up here.”

Pearce was recalled to the State of Origin arena for Game Three of the 2019 series and threw a crucial pass that sparked the match-winning try for James Tedesco.

His decision to remain in the Hunter, alongside key signings including Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues backrower Tyson Frizell and former Warriors five-eighth Blake Green, means Knights supporters have plenty to look forward to in 2021.
