Southwell’s 13 kicks for 304 metres and two forced drop-outs in Game One kept Queensland pinned back in their territory.

She became the youngest NSW Origin player in Game One of the 2023 series at 18 years and 109 days. She just eclipsed the previous NSW Origin record held by Brad Fittler (18 years 114 days).
Southwell won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 2022 with Rugby Sevens and then switched to Rugby League where she already has two NRLW premierships – with the Knights in 2022 and 2023.
